About Us
What is SWGWP?
The Southwest Georgia Writing Project is in its 23rd year in Georgia. It is the local site of the National Writing Project in its 34th year as a nation-wide program dedicated to:
- improving student writing abilities by improving the teaching and learning of writing in Georgia’s schools.
- developing collaborative college and school professional development programs for classroom teachers.
- expanding the professional roles of classroom teachers.
Our Purpose
We operate much like the NWP, using a teachers-teaching-teachers model. Successful writing teachers from all grade levels are identified, brought together in Summer Institutes, and trained to teach other teachers effective writing practices.
During the school year, these Teacher Consultants provide workshops for other teachers in project-sponsored programs in the schools.
