I've already read the book once, but I still have expectations for this novel as I approach it again.
What I expect:
To be moved as much the second time as I was the first
To pick up on craft, before I was taken by story
To reread it closely
To cry - best to have tissues handy
To not remember half of the story
I also read the first book and loved that it moved me so much. I felt more connected to this second story because it centers around women and something tapped me into that. It's funny that a woman's story is so moving told by a man. I often wonder what changes when men or women write for the opposite sex - this guy, from what I remember, doesn't kill the female voice with testosterone.
I expected a gripping start as I'd found in Kite RInner, but ATSS starts slowly and builds. Somehow I found myself, once again, in Afganistan, this time inside a woman's home, inside the turmoil, the lack of opportunity, the hopelessness, the limits that define the women in this novel. And then again, I could not put the book down, could not stop turning pages, even though I didn't want the story to end. But the book did end, and I am richer for the reading. I hope you all are having the same experience.

Ladies,
We can start our book club discussion here for now. I'm still working on the user accounts.
To start, any first impressions? What expectations are we bringing to this novel? Has everyone/anyone read Hosseini's first novel, Kite Runner? If you have, does that temper your expectations of this novel? Any worries as we approach this novel? Open it up guys, I'm just putting some seed down.
